Website and daily email newsletter gets a new wrapper

Concentric Studio was selected by DailyCandy to redesign their e-mail newsletter and website. DailyCandy is a free daily e-mail newsletter and website covering the latest trends in everything from fashion and style to gadgets and travel. The website publishes daily city editions across the United States as well as an edition in London and has over 2.5 million loyal subscribers.

The primary goals of the redesign were to expand the number of city editions and special sections, incorporate new advertising formats on the website and provide a better user experience for site visitors. Concentric Studio started by reengineering the interaction design of the site-wide templates, making sure users could easily access and sign up for the different city editions. The templates were also revamped to provide a more intuitive navigation structure and localized experience for users within a specific city edition. At the same time, multiple advertising formats were carefully incorporated so the overall user experience and content layout wasn’t compromised.

Once the interaction design was completed, our next task was redesigning the page templates in a way that retained the intrinsic brand characteristics and personality of DailyCandy. The brand was known for its unique use of illustrations that helped convey the brash yet hip sensibilities of DailyCandy. In addition, the subscriber base was extremely loyal to the brand and it was imperative that the new design should not significantly alter the identity or change how it was perceived. In fact, we worked to extend the identity and design aesthetic of the illustrations into the rest of the interface—painting the user interface and controls as if by watercolor brush.

DailyCandy has been able to grow its subscriber base by expanding the number of city editions and special sections while increasing ad revenue by incorporating additional advertising formats in the new site design. We look forward to seeing DailyCandy in every city, expanding its reach for purveyors of good taste around the world.
