Edgy business tabloid, gossip site wears a new power suit

After completing the Fashionista site design, we worked with Dead Horse Media to redesign their financial blog, DealBreaker. DealBreaker is an online business tabloid and Wall Street gossip site that covers the personalities and culture that shape the financial industry. Known for its irreverence and brash sense of humor, the blog is equal parts news commentary and entertainment.

The redesign was intended to carry over some of the features and functionalities from the new Fashionista site redesign, including a new community forum section and blog modules to show active topical posts and user comments. We started by redesigning the DealBreaker identity, focusing on adding visual strength to the brand and positioning it in a more modern way.

With the identity finished, we turned our attention to revamping the site architecture and incorporating the new features and functionality into the new templates. The new DealBreaker site was envisioned as a much more active, news site with breaking news, video and updated commentary playing a larger role on the site. We worked closely with the DealBreaker staff, incorporating a 3 column layout on the homepage to accommodate and surface all of the new content and features.

Once the template wireframes were completed, we explored multiple design concepts, refining the selected concept and extending the design to the remaining site templates. We packaged up the finalized design templates and shipped everything off to Dead Horse Media for implementation.

Although the new site just launched, there has already been quite a buzz in the Dealbreaker community and we look forward to checking in on its progress.
