Popular fantasy celebrity league gets a redesign

Fafarazzi, a wildly popular fantasy celebrity league in which teams are formed and players earn points based upon how much buzz their celebrities generate approached Concentric Studio to help with their site redesign. The project was particularly compelling for us—as avid fantasy football fans, we understood the fascination with keeping track of the latest statistics, news events and competing with friends. In this case, Fafarazzi players draft celebrities instead of quarterbacks and running backs and keep track of points as news events are reported. We were also interested in the social networking aspects of the site, Fafarazzi had an avid fan base and the site design included a number of community features and customization tools that made for a compelling user interface.

After researching, playing and learning more about the league and the functionality, we worked with the Fafarazzi team to redesign the main page and other key templates for the site. We developed multiple concepts that reflected the Fafarazzi identity and surfaced the latest celebrity news for players to keep up-to-date while adding more intuitive league play controls. The design also needed to accommodate customization—color palettes and background images could all be changed by the individual user. The Fafarazzi community also had a part in the design—the final concepts were polled by the players and with the selected concept and feedback, we built out the remaining templates.

With the interface design completed and finalized, we developed the front end code for the Fafarazzi team to implement. The Fafarazzi developers had specific ideas about the code; that is, how it was written, commented and organized which was definitely helpful for us and made for a truly collaborative effort. The code was developed with a modular approach and framework, so the Fafarazzi team could build out the rest of the site templates and modules.

We understand the Fafarazzi team has implemented several changes with the relaunch of the site and continue to expand the design based upon user preferences and feedback. We have been too busy of late to check back in and play a round or two but we wish them all the success with the new design.
