Fashionista
Hip fashion blog with attitude gets a complete makeover
Dead Horse Media selected Concentric Studio to redesign their network of blogs starting with Fashionista.com—a site devoted to the personalities, companies, events and trends that shape the fashion industry. Since its inception in early 2007, Fashionista has been a rising star, well-known in the industry for its independent voice and whimsical insider’s view of the fashion world.
The goals of the redesign were to primarily redress the site to match the editorial personality and character fans of the site had come to love. As an insider’s guide to fashion, Fashionista needed to extend its own identity in a more authoritative manner and show it could play in the same space as the fashion houses it reported on.
To that end, we began by working on branding studies, refining the blackletter identity Fashionista started with but giving it a bit more character and personality. Blackletter identities have become synonymous with venerable newspaper publications such as, The New York Times and the Herald Tribune and we thought it would be a nice touch to play on the Fashionista identity as the fashion publication of record.
Once the identity was completed, we worked closely with the Fashionista staff to revamp the interaction design architecture and wireframes for the site. We wanted to make sure the templates and content modules were easy to update and maintain given the frequent posts on the site.
During the design process, we created multiple concepts we thought would be appropriate for the site but everyone unanimously chose our first concept. We made refinements to all the design templates and our finalized mockups were implemented by our friends at Apperceptive.
We’re happy to hear the site has been a huge hit with Fashionista fans and advertisers alike. For us, it was an incredibly fun project to work on and exciting to see a vibrant online community grow so rapidly before our eyes. We also admit we’ve become a bit addicted to the site, making sure our fashion IQ is kept up with frequent visits to the site. We hope you can check it out too.
